After a whole year of touring in Denmark and Germany, The Alpine went into hiding at the beginning of 2007 and retreated to the confines of their own studio, ‘The Bunker’. They immersed themselves fully in the process of working on their follow-up to the debut album “On Feel Trips” (SonyBMG). Now, almost two years after the debut, their second full-length album is ready for the public’s ears.
The song “Youniverse” is the first single on the album and a good example of how The Alpine manage to combine carefree pop melodies together with aspects of the more gloomy side of modern life. The wordplay in the title “Youniverse” refers to the state of mind one is in when believing one is at the centre of the universe, and therefore assuming that everything revolves around oneself; something that often does not leave much room for other people. Thus, this is a critical reflection on a serious theme in the modern person’s everyday life, packaged in such a way that not much room will be left free on the dance floor.
“There’s Only So Much You Can Do” is due for release in Denmark on the 16th of April 2008 at Playground Music and in Germany in the month of May 2008 through Exzess Records and Roughtrade.
